I know this is a little late in coming out, but I wanted to offer a brief recap on the Open team competition.
First and Foremost, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for your participation in this event! I have received a steady stream of positive comments from everyone regarding their experience with this event, and it really was fun to watch everyone come together on Friday nights and enjoy the gym, and one another.
Each year we see some great individual performances at all levels of ability. It truly is inspiring to see new and veteran members alike pushing themselves side by side during those workouts.
Adding the team element to this year's event brought with it a few expected, and unexpected developments.
The most noticeable change we saw was the development our community made over the course of the 5 week competition. We saw teammates that typically wouldn’t have cause to communicate, reach out to one another making sure they were going to attend classes, holding one another accountable, and providing support. Overall, I feel like as a group, we are more connected than we have been in a very long time. This will help breed more accountability for each of us as we continue on through the remainder of the year.
In addition, we saw some of our more introverted members getting into the team spirit and stepping outside of their comfort zone by being active cheerleaders during workouts, posting their successes to social media, dressing up, and even…DANCING?! It really was fun to see everyone loosen up a little and have some fun with things.
We also got a chance to see you guys come together in a supportive way in our community outside of the gym, whether it was paying it forward in a coffee shop, baking bread for a neighbor, or filling Cam’s truck with food for the Lake Stevens Food Bank, it was fantastic seeing you all rally around the community, and one another.
Now…for the announcement you’ve been waiting for…the winning team!
It literally couldn't have been any closer, as it came down to a tie-breaker between Team Shrug Life and the Slumberjacks to determine the winners…
The Champions of the Inaugural Intramural Open at The Mill are:
TEAM SHRUG LIFE
The team trophy is on its way in very soon! In addition, Team Shrug Life has a $120 Credit for dinner together (provided by our friendly Allstate agent here in Lake Stevens, Cameron McGinness). Dave will be in touch to coordinate a date and time that works for everyone!
I also want to take a second to offer a special thanks to all of our team Captains. You guys did the bulk of the work in order to make this thing go. It wasn’t always easy, and each of you went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a good time. Your work was much appreciated! We certainly learned a lot throughout this 5 week process, and are already in the process of making some tweaks to next year’s competition. You all provided us with such great feedback and we will be sure to incorporate these suggestions moving forward.
My sincerest hope is that we can keep the good vibes rolling throughout the summer and beyond! We have a couple of great programs headed your way. The “Squad Challenge” has been announced and folks are already putting together teams (more information here). In addition, we have some educational seminars coming down the pipe as well that you have all been asking for.
Thanks and Congrats to Team Shrug Life
