Dave Potts


My name is Dave, and I started working with The Mill Fitness / RTCF a little over a year ago, in September of 2015. I work as an electrician, and up until I started with The Mill, I was very sedentary and had alway struggled with keeping my weight in check. My motivation to join was to not only look and feel better about who I was, but also keep up with my kids for the long haul. On top of not feeling comfortable with myself physically, I found that I had no drive to do anything. My energy level was very low which made it hard to do anything after work, or fully enjoy my hobbies. Getting started was pretty intimidating at first, as I was really nervous about coming in. This was a BIG step outside of my comfort zone….. But I knew I had to make a change….. I work with Cody L. and had seen the progress he had made in about a year’s time, and figured, “why not?!” The changes I have seen have been so much more than just weight loss (but I have lost about 20 pounds even with gaining a bunch of muscle!) I’m able to do pull ups, weighted dips, and handstands.  I’m lifting more weight than I ever thought possible, and I can honestly say that I have ever been able to do these things my entire life!  It’s so much more than that too….mentally I feel better all the way around. I have more energy for things after work like taking the kiddo for a bike ride, work around the house etc. In addition, I recently did something I never thought I would do, let alone enjoy.  This summer, I participated in the Warrior Dash, and had a great time!  I went with some friends  from another gym and got to put my training to good use.  They all commented on how tough it was…I was proud of the fact that I was able to not only complete the course, but kick their butt a little in the process.  Like I said earlier, just trying out CrossFit was a step out of my comfort zone, doing this was a big deal for me and I was stoked about how it all turned out.  I really want to see how far I can go with my fitness, and I currently have quite a few goals on the horizon.  If I had to name a few goals, Muscle Ups are on the radar for sure.  I would also  like to not only participate in, but see how fast I can complete the next Spartan Race.  The one thing that I really like about The Mill is the people. It’s a non judgmental place, with people I have come to call my friends. I look forward to coming in and challenging myself each day.  The coaches are also a huge part of why I have continued! They are professional and act accordingly.  They keep me safe and on track by helping me scale movements to my ability and actually care about my success, and progress.

I can’t wait to see where we go from here!
